The Planaletix Intelligent Automation Readiness Assessment (IARA) is a structured diagnostic instrument designed to evaluate an organization's capability to identify, implement, govern, and scale intelligent automation technologies — including Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), intelligent document processing, process mining, and hyperautomation — as a strategic and sustained organizational capability.
The IARA is not a technology audit. It is a strategic readiness evaluation that examines the full lifecycle of organizational automation capability — from executive vision and process discovery readiness through to technology architecture, data enablement, governance, workforce readiness, security, operational scalability, and value measurement. It answers the question every board and executive team should be asking: "Are we genuinely ready to automate intelligently, and do we have the organizational foundations to sustain and scale the benefits we deliver?"
The assessment is grounded in the reality that the majority of intelligent automation programmes in the GCC and globally fail not because the technology is inadequate, but because the organizational readiness foundations — strategic alignment, process discipline, governance, change management, and measurement rigour — are insufficient to sustain them. The IARA identifies these gaps before they become costly programme failures.

Assessment Scope
The assessment evaluates intelligent automation readiness at the organizational level — covering the enterprise-wide conditions required for automation programmes to be launched, executed, sustained, and scaled effectively. It is not scoped to a single automation technology, a single business unit, or a single process — it evaluates the holistic organizational capability to automate intelligently across the enterprise.
The assessment covers ten dimensions of intelligent automation readiness: strategy and leadership, process discovery and optimization, technology architecture, data readiness, governance and Centre of Excellence, change management, talent and skills, security and compliance, operations and scalability, and value measurement. It applies to government entities, financial services organizations, healthcare providers, telecommunications companies, energy and utilities, manufacturing, retail, and logistics enterprises across the GCC — wherever automation is being considered, piloted, or scaled.
The assessment is GCC-calibrated: benchmarks, regulatory examples, and contextual guidance are grounded in the Gulf Cooperation Council operating environment, with explicit reference to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman automation contexts, regulatory landscapes, and national transformation agendas.
ASSESSMENT PHILOSOPHY & DESIGN PRINCIPLES
The scoring framework is built on eight design principles that ensure rigor, fairness, and actionability
Principle 1 — Evidence Over Aspiration
The assessment scores what demonstrably exists and is operational — not what is planned, funded, or in progress. An organization that has announced an automation strategy but not executed any production automations scores identically to one that has not considered automation. This discipline ensures the assessment reflects genuine organizational readiness rather than documented aspiration. The distinction between 'we are planning to' and 'we have done' is the most important scoring discipline in intelligent automation assessment.
Principle 2 — Automation Readiness Is Multi-Dimensional
Intelligent automation programme success cannot be predicted by a single readiness indicator. An organization may have world-class RPA technology deployed but no process governance discipline to identify the right processes to automate. It may have excellent automation talent but no executive sponsorship to secure budget and organizational commitment. The 10-dimension model ensures that all critical readiness factors are independently evaluated, and that strengths in one area do not mask dangerous weaknesses in another.
Principle 3 — Technology Is a Lagging Enabler, Not a Leading Driver
The most common source of intelligent automation programme failure is the belief that technology selection and deployment are the primary success factors. They are not. Strategy alignment, process quality, governance discipline, and change management capability determine programme success far more than technology choice. The IARA weights organizational and governance dimensions commensurately with technology dimensions to reflect this reality, which is consistently confirmed by Deloitte, Gartner, and McKinsey automation research.
Principle 4 — Scalability Requires Foundation
Piloting automation is easy; scaling it sustainably is hard. Most GCC organizations have successfully piloted RPA or AI automation in isolated cases. The critical readiness question is whether the organizational foundations — governance, security, change management, talent, and value measurement — are adequate to support automation at enterprise scale. The assessment specifically evaluates scalability readiness, not just pilot execution capability.
Principle 5 — The Critical Threshold Rule Reflects Programme Sustainability Risk
Intelligent automation programmes that lack foundational strategy alignment, process discipline, or governance infrastructure consistently fail to sustain their initial results. The Critical Threshold Rule (Section 5.4) reflects this reality by capping the overall maturity level when foundational dimensions score below the minimum viable threshold — regardless of how well the organization performs on secondary dimensions.
Principle 6 — People and Process Before Technology
Automation does not transform organizations — people do, when they are equipped with the right processes, skills, and organizational conditions to use automation effectively. The IARA treats People dimensions (Change Management, Talent, and Culture) as first-class readiness indicators, not second-order enablers. Organizations that score well on technology dimensions but poorly on people dimensions are at significantly elevated risk of programme failure.
Principle 7 — GCC Contextual Calibration
Intelligent automation readiness in the GCC operates in a specific organizational, regulatory, and cultural context. GCC government entities face distinct automation readiness challenges — including approval governance, bilingual processing requirements, and national data residency constraints — that differ materially from private sector challenges. Benchmarks and contextual guidance are calibrated for the GCC operating environment, with reference to the specific automation requirements of UAE Smart Government, Saudi NDMO, and equivalent national frameworks.
Principle 8 — Value Realization Is the Ultimate Measure
An automation programme that does not deliver measurable, sustained, and growing business value is not a mature programme regardless of how many bots are deployed or how sophisticated the technology platform is. The IARA explicitly assesses Value Measurement and ROI Governance as a distinct dimension, reflecting the research finding that organizations with rigorous value measurement frameworks consistently outperform those that measure automation success by deployment volume rather than value delivered.
